Luke Roper was born in Walsall and was the son of a talented wedding dress maker. Throughout his childhood he was continuously exposed to cutting, sewing and pattern drafting, so it was no surprise when he became interested in the fashion industry and by the age of fifteen Luke had started making shirts and trousers for his friends.
After leaving school Luke enrolled in a fashion and textiles course at his local college, which led to a place at Central Saint Martin’s College of Fashion in London where Luke began a 3-year specialist menswear design degree.
He soon became well known for his edgy and detailed designs, pieces which often incorporated his trade mark quirky sense of humour. During the 3 year period he attended college in London he became fascinated by traditional tailoring techniques which inspired him to begin making suits.
Upon his graduation Luke took the position of junior designer with a major brand in order to hone his skills and develop a deeper understanding of the industry. In May 2001, after only six months, he joined forces with his lifelong friends, Simon and Deborah Poole and the Luke brand label was born!!!
This edgy combination of contemporary fashion and traditional tailoring has seen Luke clothing build a cult following over the last few years. Why not take a look for yourself and visit our website at www.lapelclothing.co.uk
