Brand new collection by Lacoste in store now!?!

This week has seen the arrival of the brand new spring/summer collection by Lacoste – and boy was it worth the wait!?!

The true story of the
crocodile dates back to 1927 and began as the nickname of Rene Lacoste. Rene was nicknamed 'the alligator' by the American press after a bet he made with the Captain of the French Davis Cup team concerning a suitcase made from alligator skin.

In 1933, Rene
Lacoste and Andre Gillier, the owner and chairman of France's largest knitwear manufacturing firm at the time, set up a company to make the logo embroidered shirt designed by the champion for use on his own tennis court.

The shirt immediately revolutionised mens sportswear, replacing the woven fabric and starched shirts which players had worn on court until that time. The first
Lacoste shirt had a ribbed collar and short sleeves and was made of a light knitted fabric called 'Jersey Petit Pique'. The qualities of comfort on which it built its name still shine through today, providing a different and truely unique product.

Here at
Lapel, we recognise a true legend when we see it, so why not check out our selection of timeless Lacoste Polo Shirts and other products at www.lapelclothing.co.uk
