Luke'ing Good?!?

Luke 1977 is one of Lapel’s most exciting brands. To assist you in choosing the right size for you or the person you are buying for we have decided to revise the size guidelines so that you can make an informed decision when you buy any Luke 1977 garment from Lapel?!?

The measurements below are in good old-fashioned Imperial inches, yes inches, that’s what most clothes in the UK are measured in, but we have included continental in a few things to try and be a little inclusive.

How to measure the chest:

Firstly get a tape measure and then measure around the chest area, please make sure you cross over your shoulder blades and the fullest part of your chest, try to keep the tape parallel to the ground. The chest measurement should give you a good indication to your correct size for items like Luke jackets, Luke polo shirts, Luke sweats and Luke Tee’s.

General size guide for Luke tops size

XS S M L XL XXL

Inches 36 38 40 42 44 46

Neck measurements:

When measuring around your neck try and measure the area including the Adams apple. If all goes to plan you will have a measurement like the ones in the list below.

XS S M L XL XXL

collar 14-14 ½ 14 ½-15 15-15 ½ 15 ½ -16 16 ½ -17 17-

How to measure your waist:

Ok firstly place a tape measure around your waist, do this where the trousers normally sit on your hips. Don’t measure around the belly button area, as you don’t want them to fit like Simon Cowl’s.

With a little help from his friends?!?

We all know the designer men's fashion brand Luke 1977. Luke 1977 garments are perfect for blokes who want to be seen as stylish and individual but still perceived as being ‘masculine’. Today Lapel brings you the story behind these edgy, detailed and ultimately practical designs?!?

Luke was the son of a talented wedding dress maker and throughout his childhood was constantly exposed to cutting, sewing, altering & pattern drafting at his Walsall home. With all of this going on around him it’s no surprise that by the age of twelve he was already adept at using a sewing machine and he soon became interested in the whole process of the production of garments and began to develop his skills.

Throughout his school years he continued to experiment with the design and construction of garments and by the age of 15 Luke had started making shirts for his friends. Within a few months he had developed his burgeoning ability to incorporate trousers too. On leaving school Luke enrolled in a fashion and textiles course at his local Walsall College. It was around this time that he and his friends were beginning to go out to the local pubs and house-clubs which created an increasing demand from others for his shirts & trousers.

In 1997 Luke earned a place at Central Saint Martins College of Fashion in London where he began a 3-year specialist menswear design degree. He soon became well known for his pieces, which often incorporated his trademark quirky sense of humour. During the 3-year period he attended Saint Martins he became fascinated by traditional tailoring techniques, which inspired him to begin making suits. Now there was a real following for his creations from a variety of people from friends and colleagues to well known celebrities.

Upon his graduation Luke took the position of junior designer with a major brand in order to develop a deeper understanding of the industry, setting down the ground work for starting his own label. He had set himself a target of 3 years work experience but in May 2001, after only six months, he began the collaboration with his life long friends, Simon & Deborah Poole and the Luke label was created.
